About the mediator
An independent person to guide a structured discussion.
How the mediator works
The first conversation considers the situation, the people involved and what support they are looking for. The mediator explains the process before anyone decides whether to proceed.
Preparation, participation, format and accessibility needs are discussed before a meeting is agreed. The mediator guides the conversation; the participants decide whether they can agree an outcome.
Any independent advice about a person’s position remains with their own adviser.
